James and Jihye
Did a marathon NYC engagement shoot for my good friend James that took us from Central Park down to DUMBO and then concluding at the Meatpacking District. We were classmates and lab partners in Electrical Engineering at Rutgers University so it was definitely an honor and a lot of fun to do this shoot for him and Jihye.
For this particular shot at the Brooklyn Bridge Park, we thought we missed the sun but it was just hiding behind the clouds and came out again just as we arrived around 7:15pm. I used a 45mm f/2.8 tilt-shift lens that I had on loan from Canon to manipulate depth of field. Shooting during sunset is challenging since the light changes dramatically in a short period of time. It’s a balancing act between shutter, aperture and ISO…then you have to figure in the right amount of flash power from an off-camera flash to fill in shadows - especially when shooting against the sun.
Like I mentioned to James, it’s like adding different ingredients to food to make it taste better.
